Iron Gold

Author: Pierce Brown

DISCLAIMER: These are private notes I wrote in my public library app about the book prior to creating this site and tracking and writing about all my reading here. I am pasting those notes into this site to consolidate everything. These notes are rough, unintelligent, and pasted as is (spelling mistakes and all). Enjoy.

Giving 3 stars because of how great the characters/universe etc that Pierce created in the first 3 books, but this was ultimately a disappointment. I did not like the 4 point of views that keep bouncing around and I especially hated reading Ephraim’s point of view. His story was incredibly boring and his character was this gross cliché of the miserable old ex military drunkard who sits around at bars feeling sorry for himself. Lyria’s story was pretty good and she gives off Darrow vibes. Aside from the scene where Darrow said goodbye to his son, there weren’t many heartfelt moments like the other books that gave the books substance. The ending was fairly predictable, the ash lord wasn’t there/is dying. Cool that they set him on fire. Also liked the psychopath they broke out of jail. The main plot of this book seemed to just be a set up for the next book, which somehow the last trilogy must have been like that too, but the ride was just so much more enjoyable in those books. Anyway, to summarize. This book did not muster up the epicness of the other books, the heart of the other books, the characters of the other books, the compelling story of the other books, or the underlying themes of the other books (‘break the chains, change the paradigm” etc) So to summarize the summary. Disappointing
