DISCLAIMER: These are private notes I wrote in my public library app about the book prior to creating this site and tracking and writing about all my reading here. I am pasting those notes into this site to consolidate everything. These notes are rough, unintelligent, and pasted as is (spelling mistakes and all). Enjoy.
ugh this book was just gross.. not in like a horror gross way, just gross at how lame it was. I got tired half way of how sexualized it became and quit half through. This isn’t 50 shades of You. I checked this out because I wanted a non-supernatural horror and so many reviews described this book as sooo scary.. spoiler alert – it’s not scary.. Sure, in reality you can stalk a person to a similar degree as this guy does to her.. but there are WAY too many things that would never happen in reality as well.. steals her phone?? and she for some reason keeps it activated despite getting a new one? And why does she communicate with her friends primarily through email – didn’t realize the book was set in 1462? Pretty convenient for our creepy little stalker friend who can read all the incoming emails and all the drafts. Two times he is literally inside the persons house when she comes home and he somehow makes it out without an ounce of suspicion. He also apparently has super hearing as he stands outside a house and can hear conversations fully. No city noise? No cars? No neighbours notice the guy constantly standing around? Main character was way to perceptive. Like someone does the most subtle thing possible and he knows exactly what it means and exactly what they are thinking and are going to do? Why? Because he worked in a book store and is implied to read a lot of books – what is he reading – Detectives handbook to reading facial cues? Not 1 scene of him in the book actually reading that I can remember early on by the way. Girl he stalks is the boring-est character ever, insanely cliche, and insanely convenient for the plot.
