The Way of Kings

Author: Brandon Sanderson

I felt like spending some time in some more fun/entertaining reads and a friend of mine recommended this series as one of the best he’s ever read.

It was certainly a great and compelling read. Despite being over 1000 pages, it held my attention the entire time. My only gripe with the book is I don’t love books that character jump back and forth. I hate when you get to an exciting moment, the chapter ends, and then you have to read 40 pages about how some other characters day is going. Though to be fair with this book, usually 2 pages into the next chapter, you are just as sucked into that characters story as you were when you last read it.

Often I will describe the plot of some of the more “fun” books I read, but this one feels too daunting and expansive to do it justice.

It’s a bit similar to the Lord of The Rings in that some sort of “doom” is coming to the world, and several factions/people need to unite against it. There are some great character arcs and the connection among the different characters as the book converges is intriguing.

I’m looking forward to the next 3 books, though its a bit daunting as they are all quite long. My plan is to spread them out a bit.
