Quantum Supremacy
Author: Michio Kaku
Im really batting 1000 this year. Feel like I’m just whining about all the books.
I read this book because I am interested in quantum computing and wanted to learn more.
Book this book hardly felt like it was about quantum computing at all. It was more like Kaku talking about interesting future technologies or problems for humans to solve like bioengineering, learning the secrets of photosynthesis and unleashing the next food revolution to feed the planet, solving fusion, etc. and then capping off each section saying “and quantum computers might be able to help us accomplish this”.
Really? That’s all?
It starts the book out with some surface level info about quantum computers and how they work (typical Schrödinger’s cat stuff), but it feels like the book is written more for people who have a dinner party in a few weeks, and desperately want to sound smart.
Might be a good book if you want a very high level introduction to quantum computers, and context for big challenges they may be able to help with. But if you want to get deeper in the weeds, this book isn’t it.
