Author: Mario Puzo
The book was entertaining and kept me gripped. I finished it within a couple days. It is pretty rough though. Not so much in violence, though there are a couple moments for sure. I just was not expecting sex scenes that I imagine would fit well in 50 shades. Or the way women are talked about by the characters, or a couple references to Hollywood, and its affinity for young girls. It was just a little over the top at times in how much the author would go into details. Kind of felt like he was getting his jollies while he wrote it in my humble opinion.
But then I looked up the author and saw his picture, and I hate to judge a book by its cover, but it kind of makes sense now.

All that aside, I understand why the book was so popular.
I watched the movie after, as I had never seen it. The movie was a lot more tame. Unnecessary storylines were taken out, and it did not have that same over the top sense as the book.
I have to say it though, and I know its sacrilege to movie buffs, but the movie did not feel like a “one of the best movies of all time” movies to me. It was great. I was entertained. Period. But that’s it. I will probably never watch it again, or if I do, it will be a long time from now. I think part of it is due to how old it was. Dramatic scenes like The Godfather getting gunned down just don’t hit quite the same when they are filmed in the 70s, where they utilize the gradual fade out as the scene changes.
I will say though that Marlon Brando was awesome. The book always talked about the gravity or presence that Don Corleone had, and Brando really captured that. I wanted to see more of him in the movie, but the plot isn’t wholly centred around him. I don’t really have a desire to watch the other two movies, though Im sure they are good, and Im sure I’ll get around to them some day.
