Author: C.S. Lewis
An interesting second instalment to the trilogy, the first book is called Out of the Silent Planet.
In this book, the main character from the last book (Ransom) is sent to Perelandra on vague terms, but essentially with the instructions that the planet has a grave threat, and he needs to help.
When he gets there, he finds out that the planet is not fallen, like earth, and is actually experiencing the early stages of the Garden of Eden like experience of earth. From there, the antagonist (Weston) from the last book is introduced. He has been possessed by the devil, and is trying to manipulate the woman they run into on the planet in the same way as Eve was in the story in Genesis.
Ransom does everything he can to argue against the devil, and make his own points. But Weston is relentless, and Ransom can tell he is not going to successfully win this battle.
Ransom decides to kill Weston, which is the only vessel the devil has to try and tempt Eve. They have a long drawn out fight, and Ransom ultimately wins. The planet is saved and is not fallen.
It was kind of a cool premise for the book, and I enjoyed reading the scenes where Weston would try and manipulate the Eve like character on the planet. It was a window into C.S. Lewis belief and understanding of the biblical story of Genesis, and what it reveals about the fall of man, and the original sin which I believe Lewis would say is pride.
